'Studio 4' is the name given to the Visual Arts Department at Belmont and it is here that Art, Design, Design Technology, Ceramics, Photography, Fine Art and Textiles are taught. Various media are discovered during the course of a child's life at Belmont, including sketching, silk screen painting, ceramics, water colours and photography.
Children are prepared for Art Scholarships and encouraged to enter into a wide range of competitions and initiatives. Clubs for children of all abilities run alongside invitation clubs, which seek to enhance the abilities of the most able.
Music and the Performing Arts
Musical performance plays a very important part in school life. Belmont has a fine reputation for choral singing and all children are encouraged to learn an instrument in school from Year 2 (6-7 year olds). There are four choirs, instrumental groups and many opportunities to perform either in a safe, informal environment or to a wider audience in an assembly or concert.
Drama is one of the major strengths of the school and there are opportunities to perform in all year groups. Children are encouraged not only to act but also to become involved in set design, painting, lighting, sound and backstage management. Boys and girls are always keen to help to prepare stage sets and to develop new skills. The major school productions are open to all children and are a key catalyst to discovering hidden talent among our children.
LAMDA lessons are undertaken by many pupils and in Year 6 all children are entered for their Grade 1 Choral Speaking award. These skills support the work of the English Department in promoting debating and public speaking as a key skill to be acquired by all pupils.
Bel Artis Festival
This biannual festival takes place in the summer term and all pupils are participants. Visiting professionals lead workshops for children across the age range and for one week we celebrate the visual and performing arts together culminating in an evening of performance and celebration.
