Pre-Prep: Age 3 – 7

Outcomes for children are outstanding. They are likely to achieve or exceed the Early Learning Goals by the end of the EYFS. Children thrive in this warm, family atmosphere. They confidently make choices, try things for themselves and take responsibility for small tasks.

ISI Report

Children can join the Pre-Prep in the September following their third birthday.  Classes are divided into Pre-Reception & Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

This is where your child’s journey of discovery begins.  In our caring and stimulating environment, confidence can be built, new friends made and learning achieved through play.  Our friendly, approachable staff have extensive experience in the care of young children and will ensure that all your child's needs are fulfilled.

We believe in spending as much of the day as possible outside using our gardens for imaginative play, the adventure playground for active fun and the adjoining wooded area for teddy bear picnics and discovering the wonders of nature. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, play is child led but there is gentle encouragement to join in with structured tasks during the day. The curriculum for Years 1 and 2 mirrors and extends the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1.

Woodland activities

In addition to a variety of activities, our older children also learn French, Music, Drama, Art, PE, and IT and have the opportunity to join weekly swimming and ballet lessons if they wish to.  For all children, basic skills in speaking, listening, literacy and numeracy are achieved.  Independence and self-confidence are fostered and children are encouraged to be kind and considerate to others.

For the younger children a quiet time after lunch provides the opportunity to lie down and to listen to a story or perhaps enjoy a sleep in our Quiet Room if needed.  At playtime, children can play freely and we help them to master the adventure playground and to invent games in the woods.

In Pre-Reception we recommend that children attend for a minimum of five sessions, building gradually towards full days by the Summer Term.  In this way, your child will be well prepared when he or she moves on to our full time Reception class: children in Reception attend as full time pupils.

The school day begins at 8.30am and ends at 3.20pm with clubs for children from 3.20pm to 4.20pm.  We also offer all pupils the opportunity to join us from 7.30am for a cooked Chef’s breakfast in the main Dining Hall.  Pupils in Reception upwards can extend their day by attending Fun Club, which comprises supervised activities until 5.45pm.
