Physical Education

In the Sports department we are very keen to show that sport and being physically active is essential to leading a healthy life. We encourage pupils to enjoy their sport and fitness activities through physical education and games lessons, competitive fixtures and our “Sport for All” philosophy. 

The aims of Physical Education

  • To encourage enthusiasm and a passion for physical activity.
  • To understand the contribution that physical activity and sport make to health, fitness and well-being.
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge and understanding to improve performance.
  • To perform effectively in different physical activities by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics and strategies.

Competitions

We run competitive inter school fixture afternoons on a weekly basis in football, rugby, netball, hockey and cricket.

We also attend local and regional competitions and fixtures in football, rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, swimming, cross country, athletics, tennis, golf, biathlon, equestrian and sailing.

We also run many inter house fixtures for all students at school and these are always keenly contested occasions!

Extra-Curricular

After school clubs are also on offer on a weekly basis and these include football, netball, mountain biking, cricket, tennis, equestrian, swimming, athletics. Pupils can take part in sports they enjoy and develop skills further.
