Sports

At Belmont, sport is taught by specialist teachers across the age range.  We have an inclusive philosophy and believe in Sport for All. All pupils are encouraged to develop in both team and individual sports and the programme is differentiated to help those who find sport more difficult as well as developing our talented boys and girls.

We have excellent Games facilities on our 65 acre site, which include grass pitches, all weather surface tennis and netball courts, a magnificent Sports Hall with cricket nets, and a heated swimming pool.  This is supplemented by a full-size football pitch on the other side of the village and we share the 1st eleven cricket pitch with the village, overlooking stunning countryside.

Formal P.E. lessons begin in Pre-Reception and children are taught the basic skills in the Sports Hall where the equipment is specially tailored to the younger age range.  Every week, swimming lessons are available for Early Years children and there is also the opportunity to attend our ballet academy too.

From Year 1 onwards, pupils enjoy increasing opportunities for PE and Games where they are taught by subject specialist staff and sports coaches.  Boys play Football, Rugby and Hockey in the winter and Cricket, Swimming, Athletics and Tennis in the summer.  Girls play Hockey, Football and Netball in the winter, and Cricket, Swimming, Tennis and Athletics in the summer.  All children take part in Cross Country lessons and, in Physical Education lessons, minor sports such as Volleyball and Basketball and Dance form part of the curriculum.

In Years 1 and 2, Games is introduced in addition to Physical Education and children begin to play in more competitive situations, as appropriate.  From Year 3 onwards, all children have two double Games lessons each week and one PE lesson in addition to competitive fixtures.

Teams compete in a variety of Games so that, in addition to the major team games, pupils can develop their skills in a range of individual sports such as show jumping, tennis, dinghy sailing, and judo.
