This term year 5 has been studying rivers and flooding in Geography. They have spent a few weeks looking at why floods occur, what their impacts are and how flooding can be prevented. As part of their studies, children visited the Thames Barrier in London where they had a guided tour and talk and then took part in an educational activity. One particular area of focus is the impact of rising sea levels on the effectiveness of the floor barrier.
After the visit, children looked around the National Maritime Museum visiting the new 'Polar Worlds' exhibition which will link in with their next unit on Biomes.
